Marathon #72 – 26.2 for Cam

Cam’s Story:
My name is Cameron Lord and I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease July 5, 2022.
It all started in April with bad stomach pain that ended up with me in the ER, the doctors and nurses not able to tell what it was after several tests. After that night, the stomach pain continued and I began struggling to keep up at jiu jitsu, the sport I participate in. It was hard, but I kept pushing.
Months went by; I was in and out of doctor offices until one day I was told I might have IBS. That would not have been the worst thing, considering how much pain I was in. But of course, it did not go that way.
On the 4th of July, I was in my house, hearing all the parties surrounding me, prepping for my colonoscopy the next day. I was sad and hungry, at my lowest weight of about 86 pounds. That was my low. The next day, I was up early for a colonoscopy. After the procedure, it was determined that I had Crohn’s. I did not quite know what it meant then, but it was much more than I had expected. I thought it would just be a pill each day, but after several courses of prednisone and other medication changes, I found it was not.
I finally ended up on Humira every other week which seems to be working well for me. I feel so much better, and I am able to do my sports and activities without pain.
