Not sure where to even begin with this recap. When we talk about Team Challenge a word that always comes up is “support.” The support you receive from the organization, from managers, mentors, coaches even other participants is unlike anything I can describe. You really just have to experience it to see it firsthand. The support I have received from everyone since I began this 26.2 For You journey has been overwhelming. So many people have encouraged me, supported me and it’s been so helpful, I’m truly so grateful. Today that support was simply amazing and I’m at a loss for words.

Running 26.2 miles is a lot and I really wanted a way to allow people to join me during some of this challenge, without having to run an actual marathon with me. Today’s marathon was a short 1.8 mile loop course that I ran over and over again until I hit 26.2 miles. I wanted to create a group run to allow “you” to join me, running or walking as much or as little of this with me as you wanted. Would anyone come? Who would want to do this? It turns out 35 of you wanted to do this with me, including some of you virtually, running with me from across the country. It was just awesome to be out there running with all of you, having your support and encouragement means the world to me and I’m so thankful to all of you! Together we ran 153 miles today, all for a cure, and for Leigh!

Today’s marathon was for Leigh. Leigh is a Team Challenge rock star and has been for quite some time. Leigh is currently training for her 30th Team Challenge event. She has run and raised money for the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation each time, this is an incredible accomplishment. Her dedication to help those who suffer and battle is something I admire about her. She raises money and awareness not just for herself but for her TC family and I know she would tell you she couldn’t do any of it without their support.

Part of the group that ran today was the Team Challenge New England chapter. They are training to run and walk a half marathon in Bristol, RI next weekend and some will be joining Leigh out in Napa, CA. They had their training run at the same time I did my marathon and I was able to run with them during the first part of my marathon. Like Leigh, they are raising money and awareness while pushing their bodies to run 13.1 miles. Collectively between the two races they have raised almost $140,000 for the foundation. It is simply amazing!!! I’m happy to be a part of this family and to run alongside those who battle against these diseases every day.

Thank you Leigh for all that you do for the foundation. You are an inspiring and what you continue to do is just incredible. I’m fortunate to call you a friend and happy to be right there with you fighting against Crohn’s and colitis. Thank you for allowing me to share your story and to run a marathon in honor of you!

Marathon #12 is done, and it was a group effort this time! This 26.2 was for you Leigh! 26.2 For You!
